The partnership between the two Group companies, Brunton’s Propellers and Tridan Engineering, has resulted in sales of the Variable Pitch Autoprop Propeller increasing at over 12% per year during the last four years and has now necessitated an extension being built to the Tridan factory to accommodate the increased volume, and also further investment in CNC machine tools.
Not only has there been a large increase in sales value, but also the product range has been greatly extended through the combined input of both companies, and now the specialist self-pitching propeller can be supplied up to 900mm diameter for propulsion systems of up to 350bhp.
Furthermore, to increase market penetration, a two blade version for smaller boats is currently under trial and is expected to come to the market by the end of the year.
A good example of the increase in the application range is that twin Autoprops have been fitted to the Solar Sailor, in Sydney Harbour, Australia, where it acted as a passenger ferry during the Olympics.
The boat which relies upon solar energy for it’s propulsion is deriving great benefits from the all around efficiency of the Autoprop, which has now been developed for displacement motor vessels as well as sailing yachts.
